Earlier this month the local Freedom 55 office presented the United Way Central and Northern Vancouver Island (UWCNVI) with a cheque for $1,350 – funds collected through the organization’s 2014 Workplace Campaign. Freedom 55 has long been a supporter of the United Way and its efforts, with the company especially pleased that all monies donated will be used locally.

Earlier this year the organization also took on a more hands on approach when it comes to serving the community, when six of the office’s staff volunteered their time at the United Way’s 7-10 Club, serving a warm breakfast, and helping to pack brown bag lunches for people in need.

“This had been our second time participating in a United Way Day of Caring and we plan on doing it on a united_way_logo_transparentquarterly basis,” said Mark Roberts, Branch Manager at Freedom 55. “Serving meals is a great way to tangibly give back to those who need a helping hand. There were a lot of smiling faces and appreciation coming from the people we served.”

UWCNVI has been active in the community for more than 56 years. Its primary mission is to improve lives and to build community by engaging individuals and mobilizing collective action. The organization is active right across Vancouver Island. Businesses interested in participating in a United Way Day of Caring are encouraged to contact Gillian Tidey at 250-591-8731 or via e-mail at: rda@uwcnvi.ca.
