Premier Christy Clark to Speak at Economic Summit

Premier Christy Clark is the keynote speaker at the summit dinner hosted by the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance on Oct. 28.

Premier Clark will address delegates gathered for the 9th annual ‘State of the Island’ Economic Summit at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre in Nanaimo. Her presentation is sponsored by the Nanaimo Economic Development Corporation.

“The premier has spoken at the summit many times and we’re delighted to hear from her again,” says VIEA president George Hanson. “We’re always interested to hear what the premier has to say about the direction we’re going as a province.”

Clark has made a commitment to controlling spending for an era of balanced budgets. Her plan to continue growing a diverse economy with diverse markets includes working to seize the natural gas opportunity, fighting for economic development in every corner of our province, expanding international and overseas trade, and strengthening skills training to make sure British Columbians are first in line for the jobs that will come.

Christy Clark was sworn in for her second term as British Columbia’s 35th Premier on June 10, 2013 and was elected Westside-Kelowna MLA on July 10, 2013.

Re-elected with an even larger majority, Premier Clark is unwavering in her focus to protect and create jobs on Vancouver Island and throughout B.C. with her plan for a strong economy and secure tomorrow.

The Summit begins with the opening of the Summit Tradeshow at 10:30am, Wednesday, October 28 and concludes at 2:00pm, Thursday, October 29 following the Closing Luncheon.The conference program features four plenary presentations and 16 panel sessions on topics pertinent to the Island economy.

The schedule also includes three bonus sessions: two concurrent Pre-Summit sessions – LNG BuyBC and AHOY BC at 8:30am, Wednesday, October 28 and  2:30pm Thursday, October 29 with a Post-Summit session on Cruise Industry Opportunities with the Nanaimo Port Authority and Tourism Nanaimo.
